About this site

Livingwithmusic.com is a site for music collectors who are looking for ways to add to, manage, store and display their sizable collections. It was born out of frustration about being unable to find certain music-related information that I was constantly hunting around for. This frustration gave birth to the idea of actually writing about some of things I am interested in and putting it out there for anyone searching Google and other search engines thin for this kind of information that I have here.

From the start, livingwithmusic.com was a part-time activity and has remained one until this day. I have a stressful day job and have little time to spare so updating this site always happens in brief bursts of activity. I know that’s detrimental to building up any sort of loyal readership but, I guess, that comes with the territory.

Nevertheless, I used to track the success of this site, especially also where people xame from when they landed here, and my initial idea has come to fruition. Lots of people end up here when they look, for example, for some IKEA furniture that can be had cheaply and can be (mis)used as media storage, for out-of-print collector’s items, for downloadable Mosaic discographies, etc.

In the many years (and I only have few posts that survived the many changes here to show for it) I have also managed to crawl up to the front page with many posts and, depending on what you are looking for, you might actually find a link to livingwithmusic.com in the top spot.

Years ago, when this site was a member of the now totally different 9rules, livingwithmusic.com had almost reached a Google page rank of 5 but was then pushed back to 2 (I guess because of the inter-linking going on). Today I’m back at 3 and intend to stay there (although just about everything else short of lung cancer is more important than a Google page rank).

About the author of this site

Livingwithmusic.com is run by me, Volkher Hofmann, and I’m a teacher. Although we are civil servants in this country and hence often ridiculed for only having to work a few minutes each day, the opposite is true in my case. I like my job and probably invest a lot more time into it than I should.

I have lots of music, obviously, but that isn’t my only interest. I used to collect (and, as opposed to more anal collectors, actually also read) lots of books, especially contemporary horror fiction and dark fantasy, but since my eye-sight has somewhat deteriorated these past years, I don’t get around to reading that often anymore.

I also love good and functional design, especially of the Scandinavian kind from the 1930s to 1960s, I used to dabble quite a bit in web design and various user groups and, last but not least, I have been around the Internet since before the World Wide Web was invented.

And I intend to be around much longer, if only to update livingwithmusic.com with new stuff I found … once in a while.
