Organissimo Forums
When the Blue Note forums folded in on themselves, the refugees spread to all four winds. The hard core (I hope they don’t mind me calling them that) found refuge with Organissimo, a damn good organ trio that provided enough server space and power to run forums which in a rather short period of time have grown to close to half a million posts by over 1000 members.
There are other good jazz sites and discussion forums on the World Wide Web, most of which I will be introducing here, but the Organissimo forums are the ones with an attitude, to boot. If you have a question on anything related to jazz, you will most likely find the information here, provided by anything from luminaries on the scene to your average Internet-savy jazz fan. The knowledge pool is simply stunning and one shouldn’t be surprised to get an answer from someone who in some way was connected to what you were asking about.
The board leans heavily towards Blue Note, Bebop and free jazz, but the knowledge and experience far exceeds those areas. You will find people equally knowledgable about Scott Joplin and virtually every snippet he ever recorded, Count Basie and his many big bands, and the “Italian Instabile Orchestra” (one that I had never heard of).
A real bonus is the broad discographical knowledge to be found, topped with a good sense of humor and a broad range of interests aside from jazz. And if you’re not really interested in discussing jazz, you might still want to order both Organissimo CDs which feature some of the best organ trio jazz to be found today.
